My friend with the flying car

.

.

Hello

I’ve got another little update in this issue from my
experience last weekend at:

“Who Wants To Be The Next Internet Millionaire.”

Actually, I reveal why I’m trying to hook Joel up with the ex-
employee of my friend who owns a flying car (plus the patents).
It’s kinda an unusual story.

Oh, there’s also a tidbit on my friend who sells 1,500 books
a month via direct mail and back ends it with a 4 G product.

I’m off to do an interview for Matt’s vacant position,
so I wrote “News and Happenings” vs. an article. But there
are some juicy bits in it.

The Q and A has a good idea in it also.

Do you like my articles and ezines?

Frankly, I’m one of the only major names in this industry who makes
an attempt anymore to put out regular quality content without
charging for it.

When others do it, it’s mostly part of a strategy for a product
launch.

I hope you read this and refer your friends to it.  Pass issues
along to a few friends.  Post the articles on your blog.

Make it worth my time to keep bringing you valuable ideas that
don’t cost you anything but reading time.

Best wishes,

Marlon

If’n U Ain’t Got Your Own Affiliate Program, You’re Buyin’
From People Who Do!

The ONLY thing Internet marketers ALL agree on is you should
promote THEIR affiliate program and BUY from someone promoting
THEIR product.

Go and do thou likewise:

http://www.affiliatedashboard.com

Or maybe you CAN’T handle the truth?

By the way, there IS no other product that takes you BEYOND
just setting up software.  And reveals all the details behind
a highly successful affiliate program.

This IS the one and only. And it’s step-by-step.  It’s good.
Matt wrote it based on how I had him run my program. And then
I went through and edited, wrote and re-wrote every single
icon.

A. FROM THE MAIL BAG

“Millionaire Speaks Out About Marlon Sanders”

Hi Marlon

… Your book, the Amazing Formula, was one of the first
books I bought on Internet Marketing back in ’97-98…
sometime around then… which is when I first went online
and started teaching how I invest in real estate. I’ve
read a lot of books on copywriting, but yours is one of
the clearest, easiest to follow outlines to writing
powerful, hard hitting sales letters I’ve ever read…

and it’s influence has made me a ton of money (I’m talking
millions) over the years.

I saw you were on my list some time ago and I’ve been
meaning to drop you line and thank you for that book and
let you know it was of inestimable value to me.

Best Wishes,
Joe Crump

C. “News and Happenings From Marlon”
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
By Marlon Sanders

Normally in this spot I have an article.  But today I have
an interview for Matt’s post.  So I’m writing in a hurry.

Here are some little tidbits that you’ll get a valuable
idea or two from.

Issue 1:  “Who Wants To Be The Next Internet Millionaire”
part two.

“It is’s now one week removed from speaking at
“Who Wants To Be The Next Internet Millionaire.”

I’ve spoken to my new friend Barry Goss several
times.  He’s a bright guy.  And like all my friends,
he’s a definite personality.

I’d heard about Instant Teleseminar but really, it seemed
to be like a knock off of GoToWebinar.  So I didn’t pay
any attention to it.

Well, I was wrong.  It rocks.

http://instantTeleseminar.com/specialinfo.asp?x=1353321

My lips are sealed aboout the rest of the event.  The funny
thing is how you can meet someone at a seminar you never
knew existed and both learn from each other.

Barry made 100 G’s in a day off a Butterfly Marketing style
promotion. One of his sites is:

http://www.mastersofthesecret.com

Pretty cool stuff.  In his private membership site, one of
the things he does is embeds the code for a new You Tube
video each week.

In his words, it creates “sticktivity” for the site.

What a fantastic idea.

Issue 2:  Since announcing last week that I spoke at the
Internet Millionaire filming, several old friends contacted
me.

I had the best talk with one of them, reminiscing about
Gary Halbert, who was a good friend of his.  And I believe
wrote most or all of his direct mail sales letter.

We swapped Gary Halbert stories until our phone batteries were
dead!  I can only laugh about these stories now…this far removed
from his passing.

He brings in 1,000 to 1,500 orders a month like clockwork
by mailing one letter.  That’s the front end (initial sale).
The back end is 4 g’s (1 G = 1 Grand or $1,000).

If you don’t understand the terminology of front end and back
end, refer to your copy of Amazing Formula.

Don’t bother asking me who he is so you can try to knock him
off (those of you who prefer being a knockoff artist to creating).
I won’t tell you.

I understand the whole knockoff concept.  What I can’t stand is
the mindset of the whole market right now is to rip off people’s
successful pay-per-click. Rip off their ads. Rip off their
products.

I’m just not on board with it. Yeah, it’s part of business.  But
it’s a part of business I can’t stand. That’s why in my higher
level teachings, I show how to create Barriers to Entries against
these people.

Not that I didn’t do some of that when I was young in the business.
And you know? Just even writing about the whole thing makes me
speechless.

I see a lot of people moving to software as the back end.
Membership sites are great for recurring billing. But the problem
people are having is the stick rate.  I think people are finding
it’s hard to get even 60% or 70% to stick.

One of my friends and clients who is cleaning up has a recurring
billing membership site built around software.  The information
is just an added value.

The trick is the software has to be something a knockoff artist
can’t throw up on RAC (rentacoder) and get duplicated for $300.

Issue 3:  The Man With The Flying Car

Joel Comm wanted some big time publicity for “Who Wants To
Be The Next Internet Millionaire.”

I have a friend named Virgil who has been on Oprah probably
100 times.  And equal numbers on every other TV talk show.
Write ups in print media galore.

Virgil sold his business that was on all the TV talk shows
to his partner.  So he is presenting my request to the
person behind the scenes who made all the magic happen.

Well, we’ll see. But my friend is a fascinating character.
One, he holds patents on a flying car as incredible as it
sounds.  I didn’t believe him at first.  But I do now.

He has a contract with BMW or someone like that who is putting
them into production. I don’t think I would have the guts to ride
in it. But he says he rides it/flies it daily.

Crazy!  Well, that’s what I thought until I saw 2 other companies
announce a similar vehicle.  Virgil says theirs have had crashes.
His hasn’t.

Two, he is making a small (or big) fortune off a niche
called Sugar Gliders.  These are little animals that are
the most amazing pets.

Virgil didn’t need the money. But he did wanna teach his
daughters to sell.  And this was the vehicle to do it.

One great reason to be in marketing is to teach it to
your son or daughter.

Oh, don’t bother trying to knock off his Sugar Glider business.
He has tied up all U.S. production with contracts.

I lost a $1.00 bet with him because he did his own illustration
for his brochure. And I bet him it sucked.  I was wrong.  Actually,
I knew I was losing when he began telling me how he created multiple
illustrations and surveyed school kids across the nation.

Sheez.  He used MY method…the survey.  And that’s why he was a
millionaire at age 21 (or somewhere in there).

Issue 3:  The new blog

Well, I’m gonna re-do the survey ’cause frankly, I don’t believe
it. I don’t believe you all REALLY wanna see me on my web site
in a “respectable” 3-piece suit vs. my typical crazy poses.

However, that’s how you voted.

But I have reason to believe the results were flawed.  So I’ll
re-do the survey.  For all of you who take my surveys, you have
my gratitude.

I have more articles to add to it after I get Matt’s position
filled (should happen in the next 2 or 3 weeks).

Anyway, the blog for NOW looks like this:

http://www.marlonsblog.com

I THINK the comments feature is operational.  So you can add your
comments if you like it or not.  I may take awhile to approve
them.  Which brings me to …..

Issue 4:  My two cents on your own affiliate program

Some people don’t understand WHY get the Affiliate Dashboard.

a.  It DOES cover getting affiliates.
b.  It DOES cover much more than just setting up the software.
c.  It DOES require buying some sort of affiliate software or
platform. Or using Clickbank.
d.  It DOES contain templates and things to make it easy
e.  It’s the single most step-by-step product that exists on the
topic.  Actually, it’s really the only one I know of that walks
you step-by-step through all the mechanics.

The devil is in the details.  Anyone can say “Go start an affiliate
program.”  But here, I tried to cover ALL the details that make
our program successful.

The money is in the DOING.  The implementation. Everyone wants to
dazzle you with sexy ideas of how they made a fortune doing this or
that. And then when you try to DO it you get all frustrated because
the implementation isn’t there.

That’s why I created Design Dashboard and Affiliate Dashboard.

I realize starting an affiliate program isn’t “new and sexy.”
But THINK:  How are all those “new and sexy” ideas SOLD to you?
Joint ventures that are based on an AFFILIATE PROGRAM.

You’ll notice they also have their OWN product to sell you.

So I recommend you go and do likewise.  Granted, starting out it’s
more of a challenge to get a product to sell.

You CAN use private label rights.

But what my new friend (see above) Barry did was interviewed people
for his private site.

That’s a great way to get started.

And while getting interviews with Internet marketing gurus may not
be easy. In most markets, it’s a piece of cake.

QUESTION:

Marlon, how do I get affiliates?  I’m a nobody?

//////////////////////////

ANSWER:

If you’re in a niche market, you shouldn’t run into much
competition.

Go look at associateprograms.com and study all the programs
and look at their pay outs.  A lot of them are pretty low.

You can go into the market with a high front end commission
to affiliates and clean up on the back end.   Again, if you
don’t understand my terminology here, re-read Amazing Formula.

This was my original strategy on Amazing Formula. I paid out
60% which almost no one was doing. And I made my money on
the back end with what was originally called “The Big Course.”

In a lot of markets, you still have a small number of affiliate
programs offered.

If you wanna ramp up your brain juices to the possibilities,
start here:

http://network.hydramedia.com/

Or just type “cost per action” into Google or “cpa network.”

Remember that if these products are paying out 100% or more
on the front end, it’s because they have recurring billing or a
big ticket immediately sold on the back end to recoup their
money.

Memo From: Marlon Sanders
Re: Marlon’s Marketing Minute

Hey,

Marlon here.

I’m at the Joel Comm event in Colorado.  It’s the filming of
“Who wants to be the next Internet millionaire.  It’s a reality
show that will be broadcast over the web.

The only thing I can say is:

WOW!

Actually, that is ALL I’m allowed to say.  But I can’t wait to
tell you more.  Without one iota of hype, I CAN tell you this
will make Internet history.  Nuff said.

I gave a presentation somewhat typical of my zany style.  But
amongst all the flash and dash was great information.  And I was
QUITE impressed with what the participants DID with my info.

Sheez.  I wish I could tell you more.

While here, I got to spend substantial time with Barry Goss
who is Heather Vale’s partner.  Heather does all the interviews
with “gurus.”  She comes from a TV and radio background.

Barry and Heather had their first 6 bagger — a classic Jeff
Walker style launch that made 6 figures in 1 day.

Barry uses a software program for his teleseminars I was totally
impressed with.  After I give it a trial with my Gold Milcers,
I’ll give you a report.

Barry can do the basics in Photoshop. He can do some html and
video editing.  He can do teleseminar stuff.  In short, he’s
acquired BASIC skills that are needed in this business.

Some people think I’m totally off base by trying to get people
to learn some Photoshop elements, basic graphic principles,
basics of html and so forth.

I beg to differ.  Not all but MOST of the people who are
extremely successful in this business can do the basics.  They
can do at least some graphics.  They can do html.  They can create
copy.

I spoke to one of Joel’s employees who does some of the copy for
Joel.  He writes a draft and then Joel critiques it.  I use that
process in my business also.

Notice that Joel is good enough at copy to critique and tweak it.

Now, Barry doesn’t write his own copy yet.  He outsources it. But
on one project, he paid $7,000 to the copywriter.  Most people
don’t have the $7,000.

I STILL think the Design Dashboard is a must buy for anyone.  I
heard one marketer basically say he didn’t think people needed it
because you can outsource graphics for $200.

Which IS true.  Yet, this person CAN and DOES do his own html and
graphics at times.  And did it all in the beginning.

That’s the pattern I see.  At first, you’re a jack of all trades.
And as you grow successful, you outsource more and more.

If you use the Design Dashboard and maybe a book or two on
Photoshop Elements, in 1-4 weeks, you’ll be shocked at what you
can do.  That is, if you really work at it.

I’m NOT saying there won’t be a learning curve.  Someone once
complained the videos were too fast.  OK.  So be it.  Not everyone
learns at the same rate.  But you CAN watch the videos more than
once.

The bottom line is some people aren’t willing to expend EFFORT.
That is GREAT news for you.  Lazy people are easy to compete
against.

My preference is to compete against lazy people who won’t spend
anything on learning or self education.

People say really, really stupid things like, “I can’t imagine
ever spending $XXX dollars just for information.”

THAT is the kind of person I want to compete against.  A little
know how, a little superior strategy and a little work and you
can blow them out of the water.

Anyway, I digress from the Design Dashboard.  It is more than
just graphic design.  It covers ftp, autoresponders and shopping
carts.

If you pair it with Affiliate Dashboard, you have a good basis.
http://WWW.AFFILIATEDASHBOARD.COM

You don’t have to buy that to set up your affiliate program.  But
it will not only make it easier but also give you the same methods
I use.  And YES, we do talk about how to get new affiliates.

And there’s a lot more in it than just setting up the software.
It’s how I MARKET to my affiliates.  It isn’t a “secrets” type
product.  It’s an action product.

But it’s more than just basics.  It’s about CLONING or duplicating
the same successful actions I use in my own program.

I try to teach what I actually DO.

What I’m trying to say here is the people I meet who are really
doing well, they’ve taken the time to acquire basic skills:

1.  html
2.  Photoshop or Elements
3.  Audio or video skills

Then they learn the basics of:

1.  Copywriting
2.  Membership site software like Amember or the Butterfly script
3.  Hosting
4.  Affiliate software

You can have all the fancy techniques in the world.  But if you
don’t master the “tools of the trade” I really feel you are
seriously handicapped.

Of course, software programs, copywriting, graphics all have
learning curves.   And they aren’t all easy to learn.  That
KEEPS others from competing with you!  It’s a good thing.

It weeds out lazy people who don’t want to learn or do anything
remotely hard.  THOSE are the people who honestly should keep
their day jobs.

The flip side is that if you get the basic skills in place,
you are preparing yourself for success.

The most challenging of all the skills to learn is copywriting.
My new friend Barry is still hiring it out.  You can do that.  But
good copywriters aren’t cheap.

I recommend you buy Push Button Letters, my Sales Copy ebook,
John Caples and John Carlton.  Oh, read the Gary Halbert Boron
letters if you can find them.

http://www.pushbuttonletters.com
http://www.salescopy.com

I realize all this is a lot more than just click a button and
money rolls in.  But it IS the truth.

I mentioned the Butterfly marketing script.  Barry set it up with
the same hosting Mike Filsaime uses.  I think it’s called Kiosk
or something like that.

And he hired these people to set it up who are experts in the
script and have a lot of tweaks for it.

If you use the script, I recommend it.  He also uses Amember as
I do for his membership sites.

OK.  Gotta get ready to go to the airport.  Just wanted to give
you a quick report from the scene.

No time to do my full, regular ezine.  Hope this email helped
you though.

Best wishes,

Marlon

MAIN ARTICLE:

How To Get The Traffic You Need To Make Your Money Machine
Hum and Purr — What I Learned About Affiliate Programs By
Drinking Coffee In A New Shop — And How It Can Help YOU
Get More People To Your Web Site

‘Bout two miles away from me is the new place in town.

You walk in the doors and there are plenty of nice, cushiony
chairs to sit down in as well as a table for larger groups.
The earth tones help you relax and settle down to enjoy your
coffee.

And then….then there is the “humming machine” over on the
left side.  It’s the largest coffee roasting machine I’ve ever
seen.  Not that I’ve seen many.

But it has this gigantic cylinder with big ol’ hoses runnin’
from it up through the ceiling.

And it has some knobs on the front and a crank you use to
make it hum.

A middle-aged man goes over to it and pours coffee in and
cranks it up.  As you sit drinking your cappuccino, there’s
a hum as the machine does its magic.

I don’t know what magic there is in the beans it spits out
after its done with ’em.  But they sure do brew up a tasty
cup o’ joe.

As I sit drinking my cappuccino and reading a book (marketing,
of course), I notice the dull hum in the background.  Yet,
reliably, predictably, the machine spits out perfectly roasted
coffee beans.

Such is your web site.

It is your money machine that spits out orders.  And done right,
it makes a beautiful hum as it works on your behalf.

For that machine to grind out roasted beans, you have to input
raw beans….the raw materials.  The same goes for your web
site.  You need traffic.  That is your raw material.

This summer, the number of new, highly touted Internet marketing
products is going to match last summer’s.  It’ll be somewhere
between a fireworks show and a freak show.  He who has the most
dazzling fireworks show and best illustrated affiliate action
with the largest prizes wins.

Last summer it was the BMW car for the first place winner.  This
year, maybe it’ll be the Lambo.

So if you want to crank up your affiliate program, there’s no doubt
that a good offer and sizzling prizes works.

But how much do these offers have to do with you?  So you buy the
program.  You learn the deep, dark secrets.  Then what?

Where does that leave YOU?  You’ve got $1,000 to $5,000 less in
your bank. That’s for certain.  But are you any better off?

I’m an advocate of education. I DO believe buying programs that FIT
your model.  I do NOT believe in buying things just because a lot
of people sell them “so they must be good.”

If you don’t know this, the BIG SECRET behind massive launches with
many affiliates simultaneously promoting is NOT the quality or
usefulness of the product to ANYONE.

It boils down to how much preparation went into it (sometimes months
of work). And how big the affiliate prizes are.  Last year, the big
prize was a BMW car.

So far this year, it’s a Rolex.  But I think a Lambo car may be in
the mix.  You know, the next gigantic launch has to have
affiliate prizes that trump the prior one.

None of this is BAD or wrong.  I happen to like the people involved
in these launches.  The problem comes when people buy something
based on the social proof of everyone and their dog promoting it
EVEN IF it has nothing to do with your “model” for making money.

I don’t care if a chorus of 100,000 angels sing in unison
(motivated by the desire to win crazy prizes) that you should buy
an info product.

That does NOT in one iota make it more VALID or useful to you.

It’s all about the model. What’ the model. Is it relevant to you.
The prizes are good.  I have no problem with them.  It’s a great
deal for affiliates.  But YOU need to be an educated consumer.

Because I’m telling you right now. Between now and the end of
September, it’s going to get crazy with launches.

OK.  So I’m assuming you’ve bought some “secrets.”  Maybe a lot of
“secrets.”  Where do you go NEXT?

If you take away all the smoke and mirrors (which is what I help
people do), in spite of all the hype, there are only a FEW ways
you make money in this market:

1.  Products — Most people sell info products.  You have ebooks,
CD’s and courses, coaching, teleseminars, membership sites and
so forth.

2.  Traffic —  You get that from organic seo, pay per click,
and associate programs.  You can also buy banners.  Most viral
marketing that works is a derivation of an affiliate or associate
program.

3.  Sales conversion — You have webinars, teleseminars and sales
letters.  A lot of people have gone to verbal selling because they
suck at writing sales letters.

Products + Traffic + Sales Conversion = Cash

Here are my NINE LAWS of Internet marketing:

Law one:  At the end of the day, you still have to IMPLEMENT.
You have to do.

Law two:  Learning secrets is more fun and sexy than doing.

Law three:  The money is in the doing

Law four:  Doing is frustrating because you will always run into
snags and things that don’t work as simple or easy as you wish they
would.

Law five:  The people who win DO. They implement. The people who
don’t DO, don’t make money.

Law six:  You can get so stuck in “learning secrets” that you never
do.

Law seven:  If it’s dirt simple with no brain required, if all you
do is push a button and money comes in — then all the opportunity
has already been sucked out.  You will NOT make money long term
because there IS no barrier to entry and everyone will jump on
board.

Law eight:  When everyone jumps on board, the opportunity is often
gone.  Blue Ocean book was right.

Law nine:  Problems are good. They provide barriers to entry for
competitors. It’s the most basic law of supply and demand.

I believe in buying secrets.  I believe in specialized knowledge
and know how. I also believe the most important part of the whole
equation is what you DO.

What you DO is as important as what you KNOW.

Doing requires confronting what is NOT comfortable to you.  Watching
DVD’s and going to seminars is comfortable.  DOING is not. Why?
It’s a learning curve.  Things don’t work.  Things aren’t as simple
as you wish.

That’s part of life.

But if you really wanna make it happen, you gotta focus on DOING.

And the main reason I bring up this uncomfortable and unpopular
truth is because I want YOU to succeed.

My products for the most part are NOT about secrets. They’re about
DOING.  Yeah, that isn’t as sexy and interesting and fun.

But do you wanna be entertained?  Or do you wanna make money?

Honestly.

If you wanna be entertained by the biggest fireworks show and
dazzling simultaneous blitzkriegs of promotions by affiliates,
then have a good time.

Enjoy the show.

Personally, for entertainment I recommend movies, comedy shows and
magic shows.  But it’s whatever floats your boat.

If you wanna make money, then buy your know how carefully and focus
on DOING.  You don’t HAVE unless you DO.

If you’re STUCK and just can’t get it going, I recommend:

Anthony Robbins 30-day personal power program.

You gotta confront ACTION.  You gotta do things you are NOT
comfortable with.  You gotta pick up the phone and call people or
do interviews.  You gotta write things like sales letters than are
new learning curves.

And yes, you can outsource some or all of the above — IF you have
the money to do it.  And can confront SPENDING the money to hire
people to do things. And confront the idea you probably will end
up spending money on some things that are junk or done wrong.

QUESTIONS:

The basic questions are:  Who are you selling to?  What you selling
them?  And how are you finding them?

But I’ll spell them out:

Do you have your target market or target audience yet?

That for a lot of people is the point at which they stop or get
stuck.

All things being equal, you’re best off selling something you can at
least get passionate about.  If I wasn’t doing the Internet
marketing thing, I’d be doing info products on magic or chess or
public speaking. Or perhaps something about coffee.

2.  Have you done your 12 product survey?

Gimme My Money Now has my system for this.

3.  Do you have your sales letter written.

My best tool for this is:
http://www.pushbuttonletters.com.

But you get best results if you combine it with basic know how from:
http://www.salescopy.com

4.  Do you have your affiliate program?

Even if you use organic seo and/or pay-per-click, it ONLY makes
sense to drop your customers into an affiliate program and get them
promoting for you.

That’s what my Affiliate Dashboard will help you DO.

Affiliate Dashboard — There aren’t a lot of SEXY secrets in it.
It’s a DOINGness product to help make it faster, simpler, easier
and cheaper to set up your affiliate program.

Design Dashboard — Helps you design your site or at least tweak
what a designer does for you.  Helps you save a lot on
autoresponders, hosting and pictures.  A to Z. My most thorough
Dashboard to date.

It’s another DOING product.  And yeah, it isn’t perfect or flawless
or all EASY.  I’ve tried to make it that way.

But if you can’t CONFRONT something that isn’t perfectly easy,
honestly. Keep your day job.

You can either confront action. Confront doing.  Confront problems
that have to be solved. Confront things that aren’t perfect.

Or you can’t.

If it was all a piece of cake, we would all be rich now. Wouldn’t
we?

In the past, I talked about the seduction of “easy” methods.  If
you look back at the things I talked about, you’ll see most of the
money you spent buying them was totally wasted.

Yet, it was an unpopular truth when I told you the truth.  I
actually got some of the most vicious emails when I wrote those
things.  Because a LOT of players had vested interest in teaching
those methods we ALL new wouldn’t work a year or two down the road.

But darnit, they sure were SEXY and easy to sell.

The people who sold those programs made millions in some cases.  So
how did those methods work out for you?

They didn’t, did they?

I’ve been preaching and teaching about the songs of the sirens for
HOW long now?

OK. So a nice gentleman writes me that he avoided the songs of the
sirens, created a product and it didn’t make money.

And he blamed me more or less.

That’s part of marketing. NOT all products work.  I don’t care WHO
you are.

You pick yourself up. Do a new survey. And move on. You look at what
the market IS buying.

Are you gonna DO?

Are you gonna CONFRONT?

Are you gonna have a clear model and stick to it? Or get sidetracked
every week but a blitzkrieg of fireworks, flash and dash?

Do a million angels on a pinhead singing praises for a model that
doesn’t fit what your doing or won’t work a year from now make it
any more valid for YOU?

Engage your brain.

Best wishes,

Marlon Sanders

To those we love who have gone on to a greater mission,
I leave this thought…

May the road rise to meet you. May the wind always be at your
back. The sun shine warm upon your face. The rain fall
soft upon your fields.  And until we meet again, may God
hold you in the hollow of his hands.
