Hi,

Marlon here.  Extremely important issue today….

Today’s article:

“How Gary Went From $18,000 a Year To $400,000 a Year —
Without Working Harder”

Today’s article is awesome if I may say so myself.

This is a text issue although Lisa is working on a new html
template I’m going to test out in a week or two.

The Niche ATM’s product launch for my list is coming up
on MONDAY.  Watch for my email on it Monday.  It’s something
you’ll want to pay attention to.

Marlon

PS:  While others only give you good info during their product
launch only to disappear until the next launch, I’m here every week
delivering high quality content to you.

If you’d like to THANK me, the WAY you do that is by recording a
video testimonial on your web cam, uploading it to youtube then
posting the link on my blog at marlonsnews.com or telling Tim on
chat at getyoursupport.com.

Be sure to give me permission to use it in my sales letters if you
don’t mind.  Some people just need to hear a REAL PERSON say it.

C. Main Article: How Gary Went From $18,000 a
Year To $400,000 a Year
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

How do you go from being an insurance salesman to a 475,000 person
list?

It’s an interesting story.  The other day I was at a bookstore as
I’m prone to do. And I saw this DVD called Tapping and it had a
testimonial on it by Joe Vitale.  I remembered last year that when I
hung out with Joe and Pat, he mentioned that he did this thing
called Tapping.

I bought the DVD and got sucked into a very fascinating story….

His name is Gary Craig.

At age 30 he was making $18,000/year selling insurance.  He met a
man named Dick Oakley from Pace seminars who told him to use this
simple affirmation:

“I earn, easily and consistently, $40,000 per year.”

I believe Pace seminars were originated by James W. Newman author of
the outstanding book:  “Release Your Brakes.”

See, Dick told him he was driving with his brakes on.  And to change
his income he needed to change the programming inside his head.

He started with the affirmation of making $40,000 a year because
that was more than double his income but still within what he
believed was possible.

The other important part of the wording was “easily and
consistently.”  He didn’t say he had to grit his teeth and work 12
hour days.

He started saying that affirmation 20-30X per day, not knowing HOW
he was going to do it.

Before long, we exeeded the $40,000 a year, so he raised it to
$60,000 then $80,000 up to $400,000.

You can READ the whole in-depth story here:
http://emofree.com/palace/palaceof7.htm#16

It’s the best single thing I’ve ever read on doing affirmations.

At some point, he owned his own stock brokerage business but left
that to start a web business!

He created a whole self development method built around what someone
else had already pioneered.  Roger Callahan developed a method for
eliminating phobias, anxiety and other things using an unusual
method called “Tapping.”

Gary Craig worked with him for awhile then developed his USP which
was  basically the Roger Callahan method with the USP of SPEED.

He called his spinoff method “EFT” for emotional freedom technique.

He developed a program where others could get trained in his methods
and developed what I’d call a massive affiliate base, even though it
wasn’t your traditional affiliate method.

He innovated some cool things.

But the main points are these:

1.  He created a whole ebook on his method that was his freebie on
his web site.

http://www.emofree.com/downloadeftmanual.asp

As a result he built up a 475,000 person email list.  He got a TON
of links that ebook from other sites which gave him awesome seo
juice.

2.  He made his money on the back end selling dvd’s, workshops,
certification and so forth.

3.  He published a regular newsletter of articles and success
stories to his email list.

There’s NOTHING here you don’t know how to do in that it’s things I
talk about all the time.

The best source of traffic is affiliates.  But he also worked the
seo angle by putting all the newsletters on his web site which
became a ton of content.

http://www.emofree.com/archives.aspx

4.  He put a lot of videos on his web site to pull people into his
funnel. The videos were mostly success stories/case studies:

http://www.emofree.com/freevideos.aspx

Now, the point is NOT whether you think his method is valid or not.

The point is he did the SAME things you know to do.  Put success
stories on your web sites and blogs.  Have a great freebie to build
your email list. Build an affiliate base.  Publish content on your
blog and use it for your seo.

What’s so fascinating about this is Gary Craig didn’t INVENT the
core method.  He took what Roger Callahan developed and put his own
USP spin on it.

Speed.   That’s always a great USP.

He added a great freebie, newsletters, a forum, and a heck of an
affiliate base and people with a vested interest in his success.

The way he did that is a bit more complex than I have time to go
into here. He innovated with a few clever ideas.  But the point is,
he followed a known model, added really great marketing to it
and passion, and made it a huge success.

Unfortunately, all isn’t well for Gary.  He had a heart attack
and as such decided to retire, so his dvd’s aren’t for sale any
longer. I offered to fulfill them for him and/or buy the rights to
them but for his own reasons he declined.

The thing about Gary is he’s a relentless promoter. I admire that.
He reminds me in that aspect of Joe Vitale.  You know, Joe is a
great promoter and relentless about it because he just flat out
loves doing it.

If he DID want to sell his business, I’m sure he could sell it for
millions.  The assets he built up, the list, the affiliate base, the
products, the inbound links have a very high value.

I don’t get that Gary did what he did for the money and I don’t get
that he needs money from my very short conversation with him.

TAKE AWAYS:

1.  The affirmation method works and is worth using

The book Release Your Brakes by James W. Newman explains the method
in depth.  And you can read the article by Gary Craig:

http://emofree.com/palace/palaceof7.htm#16

2.  Realize that the gist of this story is doing what you know to
do.

a.  Have a killer freebie on your web site just like he has his
freebie ebook.

b.  Build your list, duh!

c.  Develop a great affiliate base

d.  Publish success stories in a newsletter or an ezine and use it
for search engine fodder.

e.  Have a back end.

f.  Be prolific

g.  Promote relentlessly

Overview of this week’s issue

Hello,

Marlon here.

This week’s article:

Who needs links to your websites or blogs, what will they do for you, should you get them and will they make you more sales and when?
Check this out.  It’s a blog I put up last week and it’s ranked on page 2 under a competitive keyword but it has NO CONTENT at all yet:
Read today’s article for more details.
At the bottom of this issue is a special message from S. Mouse.  You’ll want to be sure to read it.
Let me know if you like this html issue or not.
Best wishes,
Marlon

You might think it’s weird I’m talking about freaking Google and seo.  You and I both know that the best traffic hands down comes from your affiliate program.  However, since my old pal Terry Dean is now getting the bulk of his traffic from seo, he’s convinced me that if you’re willing to attack it for six months, it’s a big source of traffic.
Finding GOOD, down-to-earth info on seo is harder than chomping on nails.  In doing massive, intense research for my new, upcoming Traffic Dashboard, I ran across this little gem of a product and bought resale rights to it: Special price ends Sunday night
By the end of the weekend, you can have a practical seo plan that works.  But be sure to read today’s article for insights and nuances.
Who Needs Links To Your Websites or Blogs, What Will They Do For You, Should You Get Them, How Do Get Them and Will They Make You Sales and When?
time_stamp

I’m going to cover some key issues about search engine optimization quickly but with enough “meat” that you’ll be glad you read this article.

1.  What are backlinks?

Backlinks are simply links to your web page, blog, Hub Page, Squidoo lens or whatever other page you’re trying to get ranked in the search engines.

2.  Are they important?

Google ranks sites largely based on the flow of trust created by backlinks.

A NEW development is that Facebook is trying to circumvent the ranking of the web with their brand new “like” button. This is a threat to Google’s long term success.  But it’s in very early stages.

For now, having content on your web site and links to it is how you get ranked.

If you’ve missed my last few issues, go to marlonsnews.com and read them.  I’ve really covered a lot of great info on seo and backlinks.

3.  Does “backlinking” really freaking work?  Is it worth the trouble?

Here’s the thing:  Getting ranked in Google is basically a competition among other web sites that also want to be on that first page for the keyword term.

There are several methods of competition:

a.  Identify keywords with decent searches but very low competition.

A very quick gauge of competition is typing your phrase in Google in quotes like this:  “most handsome guy in the world”. A better method is the “in anchor” method but for right now I’ll just teach you the quoted results method.

You’ll get something like 20,000 results.  I’m on some weird Google beta search results thing (probably from doing TOO many searches doing research for Traffic Dashboard).  So you may get a different number.

In any event, what that means is 20,000 pages or however many you see have this exact term on them: most handsome guy in the world.

It does NOT mean people search in quotes. That’s a total

misunderstanding.

Now, you type in Google:  mosthandsomeguyintheworld.com you’ll see that my Facebook comes up.  Because I really AM the most handsome guy in the world.  Google just doesn’t think so….. YET!

Gary Halbert USED to be the most handsome guy in the world… at least in his own mind. So now I am.

🙂

The problem with identifying keywords with low competition is it’s time consuming.  That’s why you want to use: Keyword Research Tool I Recommend

I JUST did a webinar with James last week on this tool that is almost all content and killer:

MicroNiche Finder Webinar

I highly recommend watching it.

That would be an affiliate link for MicroNiche Finder that boils it all down to little green dots.  Just look for the green dots and you got yourself decent keywords.

b.  Outsmarting the other guy or gal

There are many shades of this. But it basically comes down to being better informed about seo methods than the next person, which comes down to reading and watching videos, buying courses and doing your research.

c.  Being better at outsourcing

If you’re better at outsourcing than others, you’ll win the Game over time.

It’s no secret that John’s course on outsourcing rocks at:  http://www.outsourceplan.com

d.  Consistency

This is mostly the Terry Dean method. Terry pumps out 3 articles a week like clockwork and puts them on his blog.  Over a period of six months IF you do good keyword research, get backlinks and have your blog set up right, that works.

4.  How fast are the results?

You CAN get ranked really fast for keywords.  But probably for very low competition keywords. But if you specialize and get good you can do better.

The most productive way to look at this is as a Game you play  on your blog or blogs over six months or a year, although you should be seeing results and getting some rankings as you go along.

But check this out.  I put up this blog LAST WEEK and it has NO content yet:
I haven’t even done a linking campaign to it yet.  You’ll notice there are 371,00 broad competitors in Google.
There are 31,100 inbound anchor text links using this phrase and 34,200 quoted results!
If you go to http://www.gamepua.org you’ll see it’s the DEFAULT blog. No articles or content at all.

Wanna know how I got this blog to rank SO darned fast without even any CONTENT on the blog?  Hey, I’m going to reveal all in the upcoming Traffic Dashboard.

5.  Why am I talking about seo and what’s my take on it?

I HATE things that aren’t evergreen.  I hate trading time for dollars.

But here’s the thing:

a.  You’re probably going to have a blog ANYWAY.

Why not do proper seo on it since you have one or more anyway.

b.  Why not put articles on your blog?

If you read my Ockham’s Razor ebook, you KNOW the role an ezine plays  or can play. Or the role that sending content to your list plays.

Why not take that content, do seo on it and put it on your blog?

The other thing you’ll need to do are some article directory submissions, and other things to develop backlinks.  Unfortunately, no matter how great your content, those backlinks won’t happen by themselves for the most part.

But you can have articles written for $4 to $6 each.  And you can participate in blog carnivals and do other things to get links to your blog or blogs.

Now,, I do NOT believe in building your whole business model around Google.  One change in how they rank sites can cause you to NOT pay your mortgage!

That’s called being a street person WAY too fast, unless you  were smart enough to listen to me and build a list along the way.

Your list IS your life saver, your lifeblood, your parachute, your engine.

I said it in AmazingFormula back in 1999 or whatever the date was:  The Money Is In The List.

The thing I HATE about seo is it’s complex to figure out.

Once you figure it out, it’s not THAT complex. But at first it’s daunting.

That’s why in Traffic Dashboard, I’m going to do my best to eliminate about a year of the learning curve from hades.

In the big picture, if you can set up your blog right and

get the content onto it you’re sending to your list anyway, seo becomes integrated into your business without a huge hassle or ordeal.

And it becomes another traffic leg that over time can add

up and be a very important part of your business.

If you focus on content which in my model you do, and if you use whitehat linking methods, you’ll build up something  that has a good chance of lasting a long time.
Best wishes,
Marlon Sanders

arena I’m learning.

And like any new skill, you’re not worried about getting

What you want is to avoid the BIG mistakes.  In this
article, I’m going to help you avoid the BIG ones.

I really hope you read this and think about it. It’ll
save you months if not years of wasted time and effort.

=====================================
Big mistake #1:  Never doing anything
=====================================

This sounds obvious. But it’s an EASY trap to fall into
because you keep learning, learning and learning.

It’s easy to fall prey to the fear of making mistakes and
the fear of being criticized.  A lot of people never
sell big ticket products because they’re afraid of being
criticized.

You know, if you sell a $27 ebook, no one is going to
get too upset if they think it sucks. But if you sell
something for a G, and people think it sucks, yeah, they’ll
complain.

But you can’t let that fear hold you back.  Just try to
produce good products.

It’s true that if you do something and it doesn’t work you
could feel like your “dream” will never happen. But it’s
100% it’ll never happen if you never do anything.

Instead of seeing your results as your own personal ability
being judged, see your activities as performing marketing
tests.  More on this attitude in a second.

Law 1:  Do something.

============================================
Big mistake #2:  Trying to sell to everybody
============================================

It’s like trying to catch bass in the ocean.  You’re
probably going to have more success catching bass in
a lake.

Think of it as fishing in ponds or lakes.  Over here
you have bass.  Over here you have something else.

You have to find a LAKE to fish in.

Now, I don’t fish. So it’s not a perfect analogy.
But you get the idea.

You can look at it as shopping malls.

A shopping mall in one part of town is going to have
different stores than one in another part of town,
right?

You don’t put the Neiman’s or Nordstrom’s (high end
stores) in the low rent part of town.

The point of targeting a specific group of people is
it’s easier to know what they want and be specific about
how you provide that.

Look at marketing like this.  You have a specific group
of people and you are performing a marketing experiment
to find out IF these people will actually spend money
to solve a problem or get a defined result.

It’s a test. It’s an experiment.  You do your research
to find out what they are already spending money on.
Then you find the next link in the chain as I’ve taught
in other courses.  Then you launch your test out there
and see the results.

The results are NOT a statement about you nor your
marketing. They’re the results of a test.

Law 2:  Find a pond to fish in.

=====================================================
Big mistake #3:  Spending all your money on one high-
end coaching program without really investigating it.
=====================================================

I see people spend all their piggy bank money on one
high-end program or coaching program without really
investigating the feedback on the Internet about it.

Be REALLY cautious about spending all your piggy bank
on one program that promises the world — EVEN if your
favorite “guru” endorses or promotes it.

In marketing, you do reciprocal mailings for friends.
It’s almost impossible to avoid.  Or you owe someone a
favor.

Now, I personally do about 100X less of these than
anyone else.  It’s cost me a great deal of money to NOT
do these.

But I’ve always tried to put my concerns for my customers
first.  But even at that, on occasion I owe a favor to
a friend.  And I work hard to only promote good products
when I do that.

But do your research no matter who endorses it … IF
it’s a very significant chunk of your piggy bank. If it’s
discretionary money, don’t sweat it so much.

For me personally, it was a VERY big breakthrough in 1992
(or somewhere in there) when I spent $5,000 for Jay
Abraham’s Marketing Protege program.  Nowadays many of the
things I learned are common knowledge — USP, lifetime
value of a customer, endorsed mailings.

But at the time, NO ONE taught these things. And I learned
an enormous amount very quickly, even though the program
wasn’t structured and was more a hodgepodge.

Then again, that’s a bit how Jay’s mind works.  And I’m
kinda that way too. So it all worked for me.

At the time, $5,000 was a lot of money to me. So I kinda
spent my piggy bank.  So I’m not against big ticket purchases.
But some people just buy junk from a high-powered telephone
sales pitch and do almost no research on it…. all
because the person on the phone says they are calling on
behalf of XYZ guru.

Fact is, some marketers sell their leads to telephone sales
rooms that call and sell very large ticket coaching programs.
You should know that.  I don’t do it. But some people do.
A lot of these phone rooms are in Utah.  In the biz, it’s
known as selling your leads to Utah and everyone knows what
that means.

There may be good programs there also.  I don’t know all of
them.  I know that in SOME of the programs, the “coaches” have
a noteboook with 50 programs in it.  And they do coaching for
all kinds of programs from real estate to Internet marketing.
So you can imagine how useful the coaching is.

They usually start selling at $10,000 and then just keep going
lower till people say yes.  By the same token, I know of one
company like this where the marketer goes in and personally
trains the coaches then does monthly follow up with them. So
I’m not saying as a blanket statement they’re all bad.

All I’m saying is be smart. Don’t be stupid.  Do your
research no matter WHO endorses the product.

At the same time, I see people agonize over a $97 product.
You know, come on.  Keep this in perspective.  No one
product is going to change your life in all likelihood.
Success is the result of an accumulation of know how
and skills.

Law 3:  Do your research.

====================================
Big Mistake #4:  Not building a list
====================================

Someone commented on my blog just the other day.  “Marlon,
I’m finally taking your advice and building a list.”

They probably bought someone else’s program that somehow
finally convinced them.

I’m just telling you.  If you want to be in the Game 5 or
10 years from now being successful then build a list or
lists.

The model works.  It has worked for 100+ years and will
continue to work.

Law 4:  Build a list

=============================================================
Big Mistake #5:  Searching for the one system that sounds the
easiest with the least possible work and effort.
=============================================================

Everyone I know who succeeds expends effort to do so including
myself.

However, once you get your systems tested and in place, they
truly CAN run more or less on autopilot with minimal input
and monitoring for substantial periods of time.

Then you may have to create new systems or re-tweak.

Sometimes there are fundamental shifts in the market that
require a new set of systems to be created and installed.

The axe I have to grind is with consumers who search and
search for someone who promises them the world with little
effort.

Some people believe this nonsense.  They actually believe
you can obtain huge results almost by pushing a button or
expending very little effort.

If that’s you, stop it.

Success is the result of the accumulation of skills and
know how and the implementation of the same.  Ultimately,
you find one formula that works for you through trial and
error.

And the money comes when you then repeat that formula over
and over in the same market or in various markets.

That’s where money comes from.

It takes experimentation on your part to refine that formula.
And if every month you’re trying a brand new formula you’ll
never get there.

You get a formula and work with it, tweak it, refine it until
you get it to work.

So you find a group of people who buy a lot of stuff over and
over.

You see what they are buying right now.

You create something like it but add your own spin and USP
or solve a problem or two with the existing products or
systems.

Then you throw it out there and see if the market confirms
that your observations were correct.

If not, your test failed.  You either tweak that product
again or take another stab at it.

I personally like to look for under served people or topics.
So here’s a group of people who buy lots and lots of stuff
but on this one topic, idea or product, there’s a lack of
supply.

I like to BE the supply to a lack.  True marketing is
serving.  You serve people who are under served.  You become
the supply for lack.

There are always gaps in the market.  Wants that are unfulfilled.

But this is only one way to look at it.

Others see wants as things that are NEVER satisfied. So if people
buy one thing to fulfill a want, they’ll buy another and another.

Law 5:  Get a formula and tweak it

================================================================
Big Mistake #6:  Not really focusing and getting lead generation
systems in place and down pat
================================================================

All businesses boil down to generating new customers and making
sales.

So you gotta get really, really, really good at that process.
Become an expert in it.

For Internet marketing this means:

a.  Knowing where your customers hang out at.

b.  Hanging out there with them.

c.  Watching what they talk about and looking for unmet wants

d.  Filling those unmet wants or under-served products

e.  Having a system for continually putting more and more and
more of those people on your list by giving them a really great
reason to get ON your list and STAY on your list.

f.  Sending out emails that provide value and sometimes sell
stuff.

Your whole entire business hinges on your ability to find the
people who buy lots of stuff then find some way to get ’em on
your list so you can send ’em emails.

Don’t like getting people on a list and sending them emails?
Then you’re on the wrong list baby!

That’s what I do. Go find someone else.

Law 5:  Get really good at filling your pipeline with new
blood

=============================================================
Big Mistake #7:  Thinking you have to have the perfect product
before you can sell it
=============================================================

Listen, by the time your product is perfect, the market has
changed and it won’t sell anymore anyway.

Joe Vitale said, “Money loves speed.”

Provide value?  Yes.  Provide more value than people pay for?
Absolutely.

Provide perfect products and value?  No.

Now, the bar of what people expect keeps moving higher and
higher.  That’s how business works.  So you always have to
get better.

But that’s ok because you learn as you go.

==============================================
Big Mistake #8:  Never getting good at selling
==============================================

Business as I’ve said is about finding potential customers and
giving them really compelling reasons for buying from you today.

You get them on a list and then you sell ’em or serve ’em.
Those two ARE the same thing. Selling = serving unmet wants and
needs.

You may not like to sell.  You may not be good at selling.

Get over it.

You gotta sell.

Now, you can do it by writing stuff.  Reports, sales letters,
whatever.

You can do it by doing teleseminars or webinars.

You can do it by sign language.

But somehow.  Someway.  You gotta sell.

Stated in more socially acceptable terms, you gotta give people
reasons to buy from you.

Whatever.  Nothing happens until someone gives you money in
exchange for something they want.

Law 8: Get good at selling

===========================================
Big Mistake #9:  Hopping on the band wagon
===========================================

Sometimes you gotta hop on the band wagon.
Sometimes it’s a mistake.

In general, it’s better to be ON the wagon before the
band get there.  Because by the time the band gets there
it’s too late.

This is especially true with search engine optimization
methods otherwise known as seo.

By the time the perfect, user friendly course comes out with
all the methods made dirt easy, those things are probably less
effective.

The money is made early on in most arenas.  You get to the
diamond mine BEFORE everyone else finds out about it.

This is admittedly double talk and an art.  On the one hand,
I like proven business models like list building and I don’t
like fads that die fast.

On the other hand, if you’re too late to the party, it’s OVER.

So it’s an art to know what to jump in early on and what to
avoid.

What I DO know is that, in general, by the time everyone is talking
about it and you have all the social proof that makes you feel
comfortable and by the time all the software is perfect and hassle
free and by the time there are cheap coaching programs on it and
by the time all those nasty kinks and bugs are worked out and by
the time it’s super simple and easy to learn and do — by THAT
time it’s TOO late.

Stop complaining about software that has glitches or isn’t perfectly
easy to use and processes that aren’t all 100% perfectly laid
out.

Because by the time all that happens everyone else has figured it
out also and the party is so freaking over it isn’t funny.

The money is made early.

Money loves speed.

If you sit around and debate on it, research it, think about it,
mull it over — it’s too late.

By the same token, don’t bet the farm on a fad.

Which sounds like double talk.  And that’s why judgment is involved.
Which is GOOD!

Once it’s a “machine,” the party is over.

Why?

This is a basic, fundamental understanding of the law of supply
and demand.  When the supply equals demand, the profit is GONE.

Law 9:  Joe Vitale was right. Money loves speed.

==============================================================
Big Mistake #10: Doing all the technical stuff yourself
==============================================================

Outsource your customer service as soon as you can.

Find a good technical person (freelancer or part timer) as soon
as you can.

Find a webmaster and graphic designer as soon as you can.

Law 10: Focus on marketing.
