I’ve been deep in my knees in research for quite some time now
for my new Dashboard that’ll be coming out on getting website traffic.

It has been more research than I WANTED to do in that I’ve
had to research entire bodies of knowledge to get down to the nitty gritty.

But I’m excited about many of my findings in organic seo,
Google Adwords and even affiliate marketing.  I’m boiling
down entire areas of knowledge into simple steps. It has been
quite a vast amount of research.

Anyone can spit out a complicated process.  It takes a lot of
research to really get down to the heart of the matter and
eliminate all the fluff, noise and wasted effort.

So when I do a Dashboard, it LOOKS simple. But typically, a
lot of thought, effort and research went into it to get it
down to a small number of steps.

Now, onto today’s topic…

Here’s the PROBLEM with keyword research:

The goal is to suck traffic out of the keywords from Google,
Bing, Yahoo and other search engines.

The problem is that there are many tools for keyword research
and many theories. And often they contradict each other.

1.  The tools often give vastly different results

Just as an example, Market Samurai or Wordtracker give me
the same competition results.  But MicroNiche Finder gives other results.

2.  Google has different data centers

Google has a number of different data centers that apparently
give varying results. This doesn’t make things easy.

3.  There are many different parameters you can use.

For example, to measure the competition for a keyword, you
can use the “quoted search” in Google. Or an inanchor search.
Or allinanchor.  Or you can look at the pagerank of the
listings.  Or you can peruse a lot of variables using
SEO Quake or Seo Tools For Firefox.

Here’s our METHOD for this ezines issue:

There is no right or wrong way to do it.  I see people
succeed with many methods. What you need is ONE method that works for you.

So let’s look at a workable method.

Step one:  Search your topic using the Google External Keywords Tool

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

One of my favorite anti virus software programs is Panda Security.

So I checked “website content” and entered the web page url.

This SAME option is available in the NEW google external
keyword tools BETA. The only difference is you just
enter the URL where it says “website”.

Now, Google then spiders the website and gives you a list of keywords.

Here’s a PICTURE of what this looks like:

Step two:  Click “add” on all keywords with under 10,000
searches but OVER 1,000.

I went through the list and clicked the little
“add” button on the right for EVERY keyword that had 10,000
or less earch results.

I figure those keywords won’t be too competitive.  Given time,
I’d do research on the keywords with more searches if I found
out that the keywords under 10,000 searches weren’t competitive.

Step three:  Click the txt link at the very bottom in order
to export the keywords to a text file.

Step Four:  Import the keywords into MicroNiche Finder

If you’ve never seen my video on MicroNiche Finder, here it is:

The reason I did the keyword search in Google instead of
directly in MicroNiche Finder is Google spidered the website
and brought me back keywords it feels are relevant.

a.  Go to options on the menu

b.  Click Import Keywords

c.  You can paste in under 50 words in the quick add or
import a text file.  I just used the quick add.

Step Five:  Click “check all”

I want to search all results

Step Six:  Click “Check results”

MicroNiche Finder then checks all the results and gives
me back green, yellow and red dots.

Step Seven:  Take your green keywords with the most searches and
look ’em up in Google using Seo Quake.  This will give me a super
fast breakdown on the quality.

a.  Number and quality of links

You look to see the NUMBER of links to that specific web page.
You can also check the quality of those links.

b.  Root domains vs. pages on a domain

If you’re competing against web sites that are all root dot com
domains vs. long url’s where the keyword is only targeted on a
page, this makes a big difference.

c.  Look for forum posts that rank, ezine articles or other articles,
youtube videos, and web 2.0 sites like Squidoo or Hug Pages.

Those can usually be outranked, although you need to check the
number of backlinks to the page.

Step Eight:  See if the domain is available on one of your green keywords.

With one click in MicroNiche Finder you can see if the domain is
available. That’s cool!

By registering the domain with the keywords, some seo experts feel
you increase your Google ranking.  I’ve personally had good luck
with this although some experts say the only reason it matters
is that people who LINK to your site tend to link to whatever words
are in the domain name.

So if your keywords are IN the domain name, this tends to get you
inbound links using your keywords.

Step Nine:  Register the domain and build out a blog with one or
more of the keywords in it.

You can target only the main keyword you chose or you can write
articles on a bunch of the keywords.

You write articles and content for the blog that target the keyword
or keywords. Or you hire this out.

Step Ten:  Get backlinks

Backlinks simply mean links to your web site using the keyword
or keyword phrases you’ve chosen.

a.  Write articles

This is linking 101.  You write one or more articles and
hyperlink your keyword phrase in the bio or resource box at the
end of the article to your web site.

b.  Press releases

You write the press release and submit it.  Some services even
let you put a few hyperlinked keywords in the article itself.

c.  Web 2.0 sites

You can build a Squidoo lens, hub page, word press blog, blogger
blog or one of a zillion other web 2.0 sites.

That is ALSO a terrific example of doing a nice email capture page
that can get a viral pass along kick, just as I’m passing along the
url to you.

d.  RSS reeds

This is an advanced method but software will do it for you.

e.  Blog comments

Comment on “do follow” blogs relevant to your keyword.  “Do follow”
means that Google’s robots aren’t excluded from spidering the link.

For $20 you can get 60 30-word intelligent blog comments according

f.  Profile links

You can hire these out inexpensively.

What Have You Accomplished?

So you see how EASY it would be to sign up for an affiliate program
for Panda, throw up an ad on the blog and send those clicks to a squeeze page?

You could then follow up with affiliate links for Panda and OTHER
anti virus software and related computer efficiency products.

What we’ve done is found WHITE SPACE without a lot of competition.
And we’ve done it in about 20 minutes.  Now granted, to build out
the blog with articles takes longer.

However, you can hire someone to write the articles for $2 to $7
each.  10 articles targeting 10 keywords would cost you say $20
to $70.

You can easily build the blog yourself in an hour. Or hire someone
to do it for you for $115-$25.00.  Or have the worker you hired
using outsourceplan.com (affiliate link) do it overnight.

In summary:

1.  You’ve avoided competition

2.  You’ve found a quick hit you can get fast rankings and results with

3.  You can build a list and sell other related products

4.  You could build a whole entire antivirus site if you wanted
using this same method.  You could have categories for different
anti virus software programs.

one, you’re looking at 30 days.  Some people have methods to do it faster.

But let’s say 30 days.  But you maybe spend only 2 or 3 days
of real work on it.

added more keywords and built it out some, it could go much higher.

The cool thing is that money can keep coming in every month
with a small amount of maintenance each month.

Are video sales letters replacing standard long form sales
letters?

Recently, this has been the topic of a lot of hype and
discussion.

Being that I own http://www.salesletters.com, I’m a person
who has a strong opinion on this. But let’s get OUT of the
domain of opinion and into the realm of facts.

First of all, for a little background, my pal Ryan Deiss
produced a video and a product saying that long form
written sales letters are a thing of the past.

It’s a brilliant pitch.

And without giving much hard data, he managed to convince
people of this fact.

Now, Ryan Deiss is someone I consider a friend. He’s a
VERY astute marketer and has been in the “Game” a long
time. I have nothing but much respect for Ryan as a person
and as a marketer.

His product on how to do video sales letters rocks. I
mean, Ryan always produces high quality content.

So this isn’t about “Ryan.” It’s about a topic and a
belief. And that belief is:

“Long form sales letters are dead”

“The only thing converting great are videos”

Come on guys and gals, boys and girls. Let’s stop smoking
anything and look at a few hard core facts.

1. Million dollar sales promotions in the last few months

This product sold 11,000+ units RECENTLY:

That’s an affiliate link by the freaking way.

Now LOOK at the sales letter.

Is it ONLY a video?

No way. It HAS video. But it’s a traditional long form
sales letter.

2. Vin Montello

Vin writes copy for many big launches. He’s a hotshot
hired pen with a talent for creating winners.

Vin has split tested this with clients a lot.

VERDICT: Sales letters WITH video have almost always beat
video sales letters ALONE.

3. Other million dollar launches

If you research OTHER Clickbank products that sold a
million dollars or 5,000 to 10,000 units, they ALL have
sales letters.

And these have been in say the past six months. Recent.

4.  I got 300 million OTHER reasons…

Agora does what?  300 million in sales a year.  Something
like that.  I don’t think they have even one pure video
sales pitch.

You don’t do 300 million in sales from sales letters if
sales letters are dead. Come on now!  Let’s get off the crack.

I won’t even bring up T.J. Rohleder who is one of the top
bizop direct mailers in the U.S.  Everything TJ does is
sales letters…really, really long form sales letters…
like unbelievably long.

Or how about the fact that direct mail is a multi-billion
dollar industry and that won’t change anytime soon.

5. However, sometimes video does convert better, depending
on the audience.

I haven’t tested video WITH sales letter vs. video alone
recently. I DO know that for my Promo Dashboard, this
video did great:

The $300 thing at the end is OVER. Don’t post to the blog.
It’s over and done. But I wanted to show you the video
because it did convert well for us.

I want to TRY putting that video on a sales letter and see
how that does in comparison.

If you go to ellusionist.com and look at the videos selling
magic tricks, you’ll see that when you can DEMONSTRATE your
product video wins hands down over a pure sales letter.

Here are a few facts:

* A POOR sales letter will get beaten by a great video.

* A mediocre sales letter will get beaten by a great video pitch.

* A video sales letter vs. a written sales letter of equal quality
can go either way.

* A written sales letter WITH a video will likely beat the video
alone.

Now, there ARE some GREAT reasons TO use video sales
letters:

a. You do NOT have to WRITE a sales letter

A lot of people like my pal Daegan Smith find it faster,
simpler and easier to throw up a video pitch. And for
Daegan, that converted as good or better than his sales letter.

Plus — and this is the part you’ll like, he saved a ton
on copywriting fees.

Vin Montello isn’t cheap. Top copywriters aren’t cheap. So
if you can throw up a video pitch in a few hours, it’s a
definite money saver.

But not everyone is good at verbal selling. It isn’t my
strong point. I prefer writing, although I do like to make
videos now and then.

b. You can bang out sales promotions fast

If you’re a SLOW writer and a FAST talker, this is great
news for you.

You can throw up some power point slides, fire up
Camtasia, hit record and you’re off and running.

In 60 minutes you’re done.

The question is, WHO started this big video sales letter
trend in Internet marketing?

From my perspective, Shawn Casey STARTED this becauwe he
had an extremely successful CPA offer that was a power
point pitch where he literally just READ the slides.

The big dog knows his marketing.

I hate to give out that URL because it’s such a great
pitch half of you will buy it. Geez. You gotta learn to
ANALYZE pitches without always buying them! It’s a
brilliant pitch.

Shawn reads the slides JUST like Ryan talks about. Those
have to be the ugliest power point slides in the history
of the world. Well, maybe not. But it just goes to show
you that at the end of the day, it’s the text that sells.
And ugly isn’t always bad.

However, Shawn did NOT cause this Lee McIntyre was the guy
who started it. Not that others hadn’t been using video
sales letters for quite a bit of time.

But Lee set the world on fire with his killer video sales
letters. Lee could put one out in a fraction of the time
it took him to write a sales letter.

And since Lee is pretty charismatic on video, the video
sales letters converted better. Not everyone is so
charismatic.

Kinda like Frank Kern. Tons of people have hired expensive
video guys, bought video equipment and so forth to try to
duplicate Frank’s success in using video.

The DIFFERENCE is they don’t have anything remotely
resembling the charisma Frank has. A few guys are actually
“wooden.” They just don’t come across well on video.

For the record, I was the FIRST in our market to produce a
video live in the car on a way to something…I did it
with Red Factor way before Frank did that stuff.

Here’s the difference: I ain’t good looking like Frank!
Let’s be honest here. Some people got genetics in their

reason I’m still single!

I actually got BLASTED on the Warrior’s Forum for how I
looked in the video.

What I learned is that for ME, if I do video which I do
sometimes, I have to dress up a bit and strive to look as
good as I can.

I’ll wear a nice shirt. A little jewelry. A cap to cover
up the fact that I got a bit of a patch missing upstairs.
I figured out how to use the right kind of lighting so it
makes me look younger.

I compensate for my weaknesses with a little bit of style
and flair.

The point is, you gotta take whatever assets you have and
USE ’em.

If you’re a writer, then WRITE.

If you’re a talker, then TALK.

If you can’t write and you can’t talk, then you BETTER be
good at outsourcing.

That’s right.

I know someone in the IM field who produces VIDEO pitches
and products who always hires someone else to do it. I
don’t think they have very clear spoken English so they
just hire it out.

I’m not entirely sure they speak English at all.

c. Power Point sales letters eliminate a lot of the
drawbacks.

Ryan is smart. He realizes most people don’t wanna do
talking head videos or fancier video.

So he emphasized the power point part. And it’s a great
point.

You can get the BENEFITS of video by doing Power Point
sales pitches.

1. If you think I’m dogging out my pal Ryan, you totally
miss what I’m saying.

2. The evidence from million dollar launches on Clickbank
shows that sales letters with video convert the best.

3. The great thing about video is that you CAN convert
pretty darned good and you don’t have to write a sales
letter.

If writing is a stumbling block for you, this should be
great news.

4. Some guys and gals are going to video sales letters
exclusively for convenience.

My pal Daegan is going exclusively to video sales letters.
He’s saving the money on copywriters and getting just as
good if not better conversions.

5. If you’re “wooden” on video or not charismatic, do the
Power Point thing.

6.  If you DO wanna get something on how to do video sales
letters, Ryan’s course is really awesome.  Gotta hand it to
Ryan for bringing innovative ideas to the marketplace.

7.  My only disagreement is with the fundamental premise
that sales letters are dead.  I’m on record here as saying
this is a flawed premise and believe that most of the time
a sales letter WITH video will outpull a video alone.

8.  Put your foot in the video sales letter water and see
if it works for you.  Maybe you’ll be like Daegan and never
go back to written sales letters again!

9. If you’re good at writing, then try ADDING video TO your
written sales letters.

So you have a web site.

But it doesn’t have much traffic or conversions. How do
you raise it from the dead and breathe new life into it?

Let’s talk about it.

1. Click swaps for traffic

So one of the things I’m doing in the next few weeks for
my own traffic are click swaps with a few guys I know and
trust.

James Jones, for example, has been marketing in this
business a long time and has original, fresh ideas, slants
and angles. I love his Micro Niche Finder software.

I’ll be sending you a special freebie from him next week.
And he’ll be doing the same for me to his list.

I’ll also be doing one with Jason Parker who along with
Jit Uppal and a few others is an ad swap king. Jason is
really clever at driving traffic to recurring billing
affiliate programs.

produced one of the highest quality ezines in existence

BIG TIP: As a side note, if you SUBSCRIBE to one of these
freebies, consider having a gmail address you use to
subscribe to new marketers lists. Then later, you can go
through and see who you want to add to your highest
priority gmail account.

Actually, I even set up separate gmail accounts for
different marketers so I can see all their subject lines
in one glance. A few of the guys I’ll do ad swaps with
send two emails a day. So that’s why you may want to learn
the fine art of using gmail accounts.

REMEMBER that even though these guys are my friends or
people I know and respect in the industry, and I wouldn’t
do a click swap with them if I didn’t have confidence in
them and their products, I may not agree with everything
they endorse.

No two people see things alike. So use your brain and keep
in mind the things I’ve been teaching you weekly for years
when you evaluate ANY opportunity.

But really Paul, Justin, Jason, Fladien, James
Jones…these guys all bring great value to the table.
Justin’s a stud at seo. Paul knows this game as good as
anyone and if he has any fault it’s simply that he doesn’t
charge enough for what he sells out of concern for his
customers well being.

Jason Parker is a stud at ad swaps and selling continuity.
James Jones has played many faucets of this Game and I
have respect for him.

Anyway, do NOT think you need a big list. You can start
doing ad swaps with only 250 names. Just go to the joint
venture section of Warriors Forum and there are plenty ad
swaps.

Daniel Tan is a very bright up and coming “guru.” He has a
nice little report on ad swaps:

2. Basic SEO

Terry Dean from terrydean.org really gave me some killer
seo insights the other day in a phone conversation. You
may remember that Terry used to be maybe the #2 or #3
“guru” out of everyone. But then he burnt out and sold his
business because he had no employees.

Today people running businesses like he did then probably
have 10 employees! No wonder he burnt out. Anyway, after
taking a few years off he came back and already has his
seo traffic totally cranking.

So here are a few things I learned from Terry and a secret
resource I’ll tell you about on another day that he turned
me onto.

a. Have link bait “pillar” articles on your blog

I’d let mine fall off. But I added back permanently some
of my best articles like this one:

Be NICE to have links to it! (hint). See #3 for my special
sauce linking method.

You need to have some videos, case studies and articles
that people really love and link to. I plan on digging up
some of the videos on my blog and make sure to highlight
them on the sidebar.

I also need to redesign my blog to make the links more
comfortable to the eye.

b. Target “doable” keywords

If you see that the top listings for a keyword are
pagerank (pr) 5, 6 or 7 then you need to find some other
keywords. There’s a real art to keyword selection and you
could probably spend 2 or 3 hours on the topic.

There’s no way I can do it justice in a few paragraphs.
But James Jones has Micro Niche Finder that gives you a
little green light to tell you what keyword to select.

3. Use my SECRET link partner joint venture finder
strategy

Here’s what you do:

In an article on your blog mention someone’s NAME or link
to an article on their blog or a PRODUCT.

Now, you need to make sure they SEE that link.

So you post it on your blog.

That ENSURES their Google alerts will pick it up.

See, most people set up alerts on their name and product
titles at http://www.google.com/alerts

When you post the little blurb with the product name or
person’s name on your blog, it appears in the person’s
Google Alert.

There are other secret ways you can make sure Google
Alerts picks it up. But that’s fodder for another ezine
article or maybe a product.

Yesterday I sent out an email to you giving a freebie URL
for Ryan Deiss, Bill McRae, Paul Myers, Justin Brooke and
others.

Those names WILL come up on Google Alerts since I posted
the email on my BLOG and it’s ALSO on the Aweber RSS feed.

I ALSO posted a snippet for it on my Facebook being sure
to use their names.

Now, if you do this a few times, then that person sees
you’re promoting them and probably will reciprocate. Not
always. But if you spread the love, some of it will come
back to you.

4. Market the content on your blog

You need to market the content ON your blog to let others
find it. You can do that by submitting additional “sample
content” to article directories and include your blog in
the resource box with an appropriate keyword matching
another article on your blog.

You can do guest posts on other people’s blogs in order to
spread the word about your content.

The traditional seo concept is link building. But the way
Google likes to see it is you marketing your content and
making others aware of the quality content on your blog.

Now, if you outsource the articles on your blog, you want
the QUALITY articles, NOT the $2 ones.

Some people feel that the articles you submit to the ezine
directories CAN be the $2 ones. I can argue both sides of
the coin.

Not everyone has $7 per article to spend for content.
Maybe for your blog but not for routine ezine submissions.

Then again, I’ll go back to John from the Warrior Forum
who goes by the name Xfactor. He writes 10 articles a day
and it doesn’t take as long as you’d think.

What I HATE about giving out that URL is that I already
know in advance some people (NOT you) probably go there
and get all enamored with his adsense idea and totally
MISS out on the point which is he has a very practical
approach to seo.

But YOU are smarter than that. Not there’s anything wrong
with John’s adsense approach. I’m just a massive believer
in building lists and creating products for ALL the
reasons I’ve been writing to you about since 19 freaking
98.

It isn’t like I’m not Johnny One Note because I am. I
teach it. I preach it. I believe it. I live it.

5. Turn every customer into an affiliate

I taught this to you in Writer’s Secret and Ockham’s
Razor. I believe in it very strongly and always have.

You turn your customers into your word-of-mouth promoters
any and every way you can.
